May Events - At Home Edition
/Typically I like to highlight fun events to do in Salt Lake City for the upcoming month. With everything going on in the world right now, many of those events have been postponed or canceled. So this month I’m going to change it up a bit. I’m going to talk about some of the things we are doing to have fun while social distancing. I’d love to hear what you are doing too to stave of the monotony.
We like to play games in our house - board games, card games and video games are all on that list. Here are a few of our favorites.
Board and Card Games
We like 13 Dead End Drive - kind of like clue with but you get to do the murdering. Has strategy and booby traps, and subterfuge. All good things in a game in our book. We also just started playing Dragonwood. It’s a strategy dice and card game that’s been fun. We love Fluxx, King of Tokyo, Go Fish, Memory, Uno, Old Maid, Castle Panic, and Pop the Pig too. Our love of board games is quite varied to say the least.
Video Games
My son and I just finished Yoshi’s Crafted World again on the Nintendo Switch. We love that one. It’s so cute. The world and characters are all made from homemade crafted items. We’ve even started creating some of the characters our self for art time. We’ve made Mr Geary out of paper plates and Tin Can Condor from a tin can, a rubber ball, and lots of construction paper. There are others too. Riverbond on Xbox Game Pass has been fun too. It has the look of Minecraft, but you beat levels and bosses to progress and win silly costumes to wear.
Legos
We’re playing with legos a lot more too. Typically we buy kits and build according to directions. We have decided to start learning to build with our own imaginations. It’s hard and fun too.
Exploring the Outdoors
When the weather cooperates, we’re taking as many walks as we can. While we’re out we do scavenger hunts, go throw rocks into he near by river, take pictures, play Wizards Unite, wave at friends from the sidewalk. Or we take drives to see the world.
Baking
I’ve been baking a lot more too. I’ve always loved baking. I don’t always have a lot of time for it though. About a year ago I decided I was going to learn to make bread. I’ve been slowing learning over the past months. The last few weeks I’ve decided to promote myself to sourdough. That’s been hard. My first two attempts have failed. At least mostly. I think I know what I’m doing wrong and I’ll try again soon.
We’re mostly just trying to enjoy our time together and do more than just work and school. We get into ruts some days/weeks, but we are managing to have some fun so I call that a win.
What are you and your families doing for fun? I’d love to hear for some fresh ideas!
