Craftsman or Four Square at 185 T St?

Since I started as a realtor in 2010 I have specialized in historic homes. I have always loved history and architecture and so focusing on both of those things in my career made perfect sense. To start 2020 off I am going to start focusing many of my blog posts on old houses I encounter, the history of some of our older neighborhoods, and tips for caring for these wonderful properties.
The first home I’m going to feature is 185 T St in the Avenues Historic District of Salt Lake City. It is the largest historic district in the city and happens to be the neighborhood I live in as well.
Above I have posted an exterior shot of the front of 185 T St. From that angle it shows that it is constructed in a very typical Four Square manner. Essentially it’s a box with four rooms on each floor. This Four Square was designed in the Arts and Crafts style on the inside. We also have a hint of that style from this view of the large front porch that is common in the Arts and Crafts or Craftsman style.
This house on T St has been remarkably preserved. Much of the original quarter sawn oak that is prevalent in this Arts and Crafts style is in pristine condition. It’s so lovely to see from the original hard wood floors to the build in cabinetry throughout the house. The original pocket doors are also still in tact and functional! And in the kitchen there is original honeycomb tile on the floors. It is incredibly rare to find an original kitchen floor. I admit I gasped in delight when I first saw it. I admit it - I am a complete old house nerd. Proudly.
