Summer Moving Tips

Moving in the hot summer months can be difficult and energy zapping I’ve compiled some tips to help keep you and your movers cool, heathy and efficient.

  1. Start Early

Even in the heat of summer, it’s cooler in the early morning hours. Try to get as early a start as possible to hopefully avoid the hottest hours of the afternoon.

  2. Check Utilities

Make sure the utilities are on at both the old and new homes for the day of the move. Get the air conditioner up and running ahead of time so the houses are cooled down during the move. I know the doors will be opening and closing all day and that it won’t be super efficient, but you’ll need a place to cool down when you get overheated.

  3. Set Up Fans

If you’ll be moving items in and out of an un-air conditioned space, set up portable fans to help to cool those areas down too.

  4. Sunscreen!

Stock up on sunscreen for everyone helping. A miserable sunburn should not be the outcome of the day!

  5. Refreshments

Have cold water and popsicles at both locations for everyone helping. And take lots of small breaks to stay hydrated.

  6. Cold Towels

Fill a cooler at each location with ice and add damp washcloths too the coolers. When taking hydration breaks, use the washcloths on necks and faces to cool down even further.

Moving in the summer is the most popular time to move because kids are out of school and the weather is usually great. Using these simple tips will help make that move safe, efficient and a whole lot cooler!
