8 Things to do in Salt Lake City in January
It's January. It's cold (freaking freezing! actually) and dreary. Besides sitting at home with a cup of tea and a roaring fire in the fireplace, what could there possibly be to do in this frozen land? The list is actually quite long. Today I'll detail out 8 things that will help distract from the post holiday/winter blues.
1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in Concert by the Utah Symphony
This concert runs until January 3rd and pricing starts at $27. Couple that with dinner and one of the many delectable downtown restaurants and you've got yourself a night on the town! Get tickets and info at the link below.
2. The Wizard of Oz at the Utah Children's Theater
This show runs until January 14th and tickets are as low at $16. This is a great place to take the family to escape the cold and enter the magical world of Oz. Check out the link below for more info.
3. Salt Lake Home Show
The Salt Lake Home Show is back at the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy from January 6-8th. Admission is $9 if purchased online and $11 at the door. Find everything home at this event - from design tips to emergency prep to home entertainment. There is something for everyone here.
4. Ice Skating at the Gallivan Center
If something more outdoorsy is on your list head over to the Gallivan Center downtown for some ice skating. The cost for adults is $9 and $8 for kids. 3 years and under are free. And that pricing includes skates!
5. Abominable Run at Gardner Village
For some outdoorsy fun that's a little more competitive Hill Events is sponsoring the Abominable 5K Run at Gardner Village on January 7th. The theme is based on the abominable snowman and white attire is encouraged. Check out the link below to register.
6. Mt Dell Showshoe Stomp
If you are wanting to get out of the city and stay active, one way to do that is the Snowshoe stomp at Mt Dell on January 14th. The event is put on by Sports-Am. Their events are always a good time. Check it out below.
7. Sledding
Another fun, popular, and often free activity in the valley is sledding. Sugarhouse park is one of our favorite places to go for some sledding fun.
8. Sundance Film Festival
Last, but definitely not least, is the Sundance Film Festival. The festival runs from January 19-29th. Though many of the screenings and events for the Festival are in Park City, there are also many screening venues here in the valley as well. Take a look:
We live in a great city full of things to do all year long. This list is by no means exhaustive. What do you like to do in Salt Lake in the winter?
