I toured a home for sale in the Marmalade Neighborhood of Salt Lake City (just north of downtown and east of the Capitol) recently. It was one of the best preserved historic homes I’ve been in for a bit. It’s a Carpenter Gothic style and was originally built in 1872! One of the cool facts about this house is that it was originally located at 16 W 400 S downtown and was moved in 1975 to preserve it. And it really has been preserved.

It has the original pine floors that I love. Pine floors are pretty rare here so I always love seeing them. I think they age so well. I love the patina of time they get. The original details are so cool too - gingerbread cutouts, wagon wheel details on the front doors, the pointed gothic-y windows, the details on the stairs, and the lights. I could go on forever about these lights. when you look at them they appear to have been originally oil lamps. In fact, the living room sconces appear to still be oil lamps. Most of them, however, have been converted to electric lights, but they are still gorgeous. I have so many pictures of them below because I was swooning as I went through. You’re welcome!

The house isn’t all old, it has an addition on the back with a beautiful kitchen on the main floor and owner’s suite upstairs. And all the bathrooms have been updated nicely too.
